How Singapore got it’s name (The Story of Sang Nila Utama)-Part 4

Sang Nila Utama Part 4

Alright, so this is the final issue for the legend of Sang Nila Utama, and I’ll be doing a comic series on Raffles the next time. As for what happens between Sang Nila Utama and the lion, I am sorry, but that speaks for itself. (Alright, so the lion didn’t really chase Sang Nila Utama, but it’s all in the name of humour)

Anyway, some historians say that what Sang Nila Utama saw wasn’t a lion at all because they think that lions didn’t live in Singapore. Obviously, they didn’t consider that a lion might have decided that Singapore had a better housing rent, and moved there. Instead, they decided that it was a Malaysian Tiger. Now, this might sound like a sane and sound suggestion, but the fact remains that it is very difficult to mix the two up. WOULD YOU make the mistake?

lion                                       malaysian tiger

                (Lion)                                                                          (Tiger)

Although it dosen’t seem very likely, this is the most probable scenario as there have been no evidence of lions living there. Maybe they just read a lousy description of a lion somewhere and mistook the tiger for a lion.

On a final note, I would just like to say that Sang Nila Utama DOES know how to speak Sanskrit. (But once again it’s all in the name of humour).
